Having done laser cutting using a small attachment for a 3D printer the S1 was a huge upgrade in terms of power, capacity and simple quality of life. It arrived in three deliveries, well packaged, and quite quickly. I enjoyed the unboxing and the assembly was really easy.
Having spent time using Lightburn I was not sure how I was going to adapt to XCS but I found it to be intuitive and powerful. It wasn't long before I was powering through the sample pack using the ideas on the xtool website. Might seem a strange thing but my favourite feature is the built in extractor that can be controlled from XCS so it stays on for a few mins after cutting to make sure everything is clear. It is also really effective, sitting next the machine you can hardly smell anything.
I love my xTool S1 but I have two tiny gripes. First is that it does not have a power outage recovery function. I do a lot of 3D printing and I can recover prints after losing power. My second gripe, and this only really applies to the UK and Europe, is the limitation on material height. As the cutter has to stay enclosed to meet legislative requirements it makes it hard to do large tumblers. Perhaps xTool can come up with a taller riser for these markets.
Absolute game changer especially after my last machine and I love how easy it is to find the right calibration for the right material. Definitely recommend paying the extra £200 for the rotary attachment as it really is fun to use.
Had to contact customer service on this before it was shipped. The person I contacted was extremely helpful. I've had the machine for a couple of weeks and I thought that it would be just hype. It isn't, it's a great machine, fast powerful and extremely easy to use.
I have never used a laser engraving/cutting machine before in my life. Here I am 14 days later doing complex projects as though I have been at it for years! I love this machine it’s fantastic.
Given this is a highly technical piece of equipment it's surprisingly easy to set up and get going. Inevitably the software takes a bit of learning, but in spite of the fact that it doesn't have a camera (the one accessory I think it really would benefit from), there's a workaround using a phone camera which is amazingly effective. Most of the time which unboxing I spent thinking "how did they make it at this quality for this price?" which is a good sign - and everything does indeed work as it's supposed to. I haven't tested the fire extinguishing system yet but I have no plans to do so.
