xTool D1 Pro 20W Desktop Laser Engraver Cutting Machine

This is my first experience with lasers and Xtool delivered. The whole experience was amazing from the delivery and packaging to easy assembly and I was cutting/engraving straight away thanks to the free sample materials. The customer service was also first rate I joined the official Xtool group on Facebook and when I had a small problem with the air assist one of Xtool professionals helped me pinpoint the problem and eventually they took care of getting a. Re part out to me I. No time at all. I’m now making better things every day and I’m enjoying every minute of it.

I purchased the stool D1 pro and have done some work with it and found it to be fantastic. The items arrived packed extremely well and to assemble it with the instruction book was so simply.

Love it and glad I bought one

I've had the Laser for around a month now, and I'm brand new to the laser game. I bought the 20W D1 pro, alongside the RA2, air assist and riser packs.

With very minimal training, anyone can be up and running within 1 hour from opening the box, it's dead simple to set up and the software that comes free from xTool is great for beginners with the presets included. Personally, I moved onto LightBurn fairly quickly as I find it to be great software, it is a little disappointing the Wi-Fi function can only be used in conjunction with Creative Space though, and through LightBurn I have to use a USB cable.

The laser is suitable for thin material cutting, and moderate sized product engraving when using the risers. Playing with the settings and running test cards on your material type before a project, can improve results dramatically. Make sure you run these tests to achieve professional results.

The air assist and honeycomb bed are *ESSENTIAL* for most jobs, especially when it comes to cutting. If you want a professional finish without the charred look, you need to be running an air assist module and the honeycomb base, there is are little to no projects that work better without them.

My biggest gripe with this machine, is the cable management and for me it loses a star here. It's not good, at all, and requires pretty much immediate modifications, after a week of running mine the standard setup drove me crazy! The cable that runs along the side, tends to spring onto the work surface and knock your material as it moves, this is super frustrating especially on long projects (Trust me!). I have cut off the tie wraps and attached this cable along the top right hand side rail out of the way using stickey pads and clips, and bringing it up just behind the start button where it cannot be crushed. This helps A LOT, although it should be like this as standard, in the future I'll be looking to fit a drag chain to further improve this issue, but this will likely mean alterations to my machine frame which is a shame.

I find the bed size to be adequate for most things, and there is an optional extension kit for longer projects if your into signwork etc.. This machine is perfect for those who are after engraving and relatively thin material cutting over a reasonable sized area, for small area engraving, youd be better off opting for the F1 fibre laser instead for projects such as cards, wallets and tumblers as its way quicker, but they can't match the bed size of the D1.

Overall the product does what it says on the tin, any newbie can set up and use it and create professional results within just a few weeks. There are tons of projects for free through the xTool community, or etsy if you want to spend some money on more complex projects. I would happily invest in the F1 in the future once my small business has grown enough to accommodate one, and I can also happily recommend the D1 20W Pro for a first time laser user. Please bare in mind that this, being a diode laser, cannot cut blue material, and it has issues with clear materials too. Tempera paint will be your friend for those clear materials, making it possible, but blue materials are a no go (and to an extent similar colours such as purple).
