I have moved from a 5w open gantry laser that I barely used due to safety and extraction to the 40w S1 and as a standalone unit it couldn't be better.
The riser base provided in the UK and I assume EU as well is not the same as you will see on the youtube reviews with the pass though window. that seams to be a us and Canada only. my guess is regulations on light escape. setup of the base is a bit of a pain. there is a ledge in the riser base to put your honeycomb on which is not mentioned in the manual in the using the riser base section. but in the honeycomb section which had me scratching my head for a bit
I am totally new to laser engraving. I have been looking for a while at various options and finally decided to buy the S1. What a machine. I have never seen packaging so professional. After setting up I was straight into making my first laser engraved product. The XCS software makes everything so easy. I hope to purchase the rotary kit one day to further expand my options.

its beautiful and its fast. Its very well designed with integrated exhaust fan and semi-integrated air assist. Its interior is illuminated while its working.
While its 40 watts strong and fast it also produces a lot of smoke. Cleaning routines is a must. I also found that it burns through the lens protector very quickly. I hope Xtool can find an improvement to the glass used.
Straight out the box, never seen one in the flesh, and never used the XCS software before. Within a couple of hours?, I was producing products for my business. Well done Xtool and thank you for the great service.
So far I am loving my S1 20w. It was so easy to setup. I have been able to cut and engrave on 3mm plywood and black acrylic so far. Using the inbuilt software settings. Xtool say it will cut up to 8mm acrylic but there is no settings for this in their Creative space software, so I guess I will have to use trial and error (or testing). As I say I am loving the S1. I am so happy I bought it and I will be looking to add the 40w laser module in the future. If you are thinking of buying one but are put off by it not having a camera, don't be as the twin measuring is brilliant. You can even measure multiple items on different parts of the base or honeycomb and get perfect alignment. Excellent product, but please add more material thickness options in Creative Space. Thank you
